Moscow (Web Desk) - The Iranian Red Crescent Society has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Russian company for the purchase of 20 helicopters, according to Iranian media reports.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Russian company between the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Pir Hossein Kolivand, and the Director General of Russian Helicopters, Nikolai Kolesov.

Speaking to the media in Moscow, Kolivand said that Iran has reached a direct agreement with Russia for the purchase of 20 helicopters, aimed at strengthening the country’s logistics and air rescue fleet.

He described the agreement as an “extraordinary milestone” in the history of the Iranian Red Crescent, adding that an initial deal for four helicopters has already been finalized.

These helicopters are expected to be delivered by March 2027, ahead of the Nowruz (Persian New Year) holidays.

Kolivand further stated that the helicopters will be equipped with modern technology and night-vision systems, enabling night-time operations.

He added that they will be used for firefighting, medical assistance, and emergency rescue operations.

The deal is expected to significantly enhance Iran’s emergency response capabilities and expand the operational capacity of its humanitarian and disaster relief services.
